| DC

Deoxycholic acid (DC) is a bile acid. Deoxycholic acid is one of the secondary bile acids and is a metabolic byproduct of gut bacteria. The two main bile acids secreted by the liver are cholic acid and goose deoxycholic acid. Bacteria metabolize goose deoxycholate to the secondary bile acid lithobile acid and metabolize bile acids to deoxycholate. Deoxycholate and other secondary bile acids cause DNA damage. Sodium deoxycholate is the sodium salt of deoxycholic acid and is commonly used as a biological detergent to lyse cells and dissolve cellular and membrane components. Sodium deoxycholate, mixed with phosphatidylcholine, is used in mesotherapy injections to produce lipolysis and has been used as an alternative to surgical excision for the treatment of lipomas.

| Typical data

As the OD values of the standard curve may vary according to the conditions of the actual assay performance (e.g. operator, pipetting technique, wash technique or temperature effects), the operator should establish a standard curve for each test. Typical standard curve and data are provided below for reference only.

Concentration (ng/mL) 2000 1000 500 250 125 62.5 31.25 0
OD 0.17 0.3 0.48 0.72 1.05 1.42 1.91 2.26

| Repeatability

Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay):CV% < 10%; Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays):CV% < 10%

| Recovery

The recovery of DC spiked at three different levels in samples throughout the range of the assay was evaluated in various matrices.

Sample Type Range(%) Average Recovery(%)
Serum(n=8) 89-112 99
Plasma(n=8) 82-114 98
Cell Culture Supernates(n=8) 84-108 96

| Linearity

Samples were spiked with high concentrations of DC and diluted with Universal Diluent to produce samples with values within the range of the assay.

    Serum(n=4) Plasma(n=4) Cell Culture Supernates(n=4)
1 : 2 Range (%) 86-109 82-103 85-110
Average (%) 102 91 102
1 : 4 Range (%) 94-114 83-107 88-112
Average (%) 102 91 104
